The Central Pacific equatorial islands of Kiribati enjoy a typical tropical temperature range of 23°C to 33°C (73°F to 91°F) at all times of the day, every day of the year. Humidity is usually high but the even temperature and fresh sea breezes mean conditions are idealic. Kiribati is more a sprinkling of far-flung coral atolls than dry land, more deep blue ocean than sandy beach, more coconut trees than people.

Tarawa is not a single island but a group of islets surrounded by a coral atoll. From the port town of Betio to the Bonriki International Airport is approximately 25 minutes by car, 45 min by bus. The international airport is on Bonriki in the southeastern corner, which also hosts the new hospital and fish ponds. North Tarawa is about an hour and a half by motor powered boat, 2 – 3 hours by 4W drive at low tide.
